A Harmontown Tanka

Now in session: you
who feel like freaks, geeks, outcasts –
those who feel friendless –
warm yourself at a fire lit
by Tylenol with Codeine

After the tanka last night I wanted to do something a little more light-hearted. Today I read a comic about Harmontown and listened to an episode of Harmontown, so it seemed like a good day to write a poem about – you guessed it – Harmontown.

If you don’t know, it’s a weekly podcast run by Dan Harmon, best known as the creator of the TV show Community. It’s a wonderful show that goes from making fun of pop culture to discussing the difficulties of living with cancer or depression, to playing D & D campaigns that involve characters such as the enigmatic Sharpie Buttsalot the Wizard and Quark Pffffffffft the Gnome Barbarian. Tylenol with Codeine was a unicorn born of such a game, from guest star Greg Proops of Whose Line is it Anyway? It’s pretty hilarious.

I’ll probably blog about the show and what it means to me at some point, but suffice to say, it means a lot.
